Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World | New Story Details
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World has revealed new details about its protagonists, story, explorable regions, and monster-raising systems. Bianca and Nera from Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride will lead the new adventure when the RPG launches worldwide on December 3, 2026.
Bianca and Nera search for a cure in the Kingdom of Witherwood
Bianca and Nera begin their journey while searching for the legendary Leaves of Life, which may cure their sick fathers. Their paths cross when a mysterious creature named Fluffy guides them to the Kingdom of Witherwood, a distant land where the healing leaves were once believed to grow.
Witherwood has already been damaged by malevolent forces, leaving the Leaves of Life close to extinction. Fluffy gives the two girls the ability to communicate with and befriend monsters, beginning a new adventure that will take them across the kingdom in search of a way to restore the plants and save their families.
Players can adventure as either Bianca or Nera
Players can select Bianca or Nera as their main character and are free to alternate between them during the adventure. Bianca is an energetic and dependable girl from Roundbeck, while Nera is a gentle and compassionate girl from Mostroferrato.
Their journey also introduces several supporting characters. Debora returns as Nera's strong-willed older sister, Fluffy teaches the protagonists how to become monster wranglers, and Fizzy accompanies Debora with an unusual but encouraging personality.
Witherwood offers changing regions, dungeons, and hidden discoveries
The Kingdom of Witherwood will serve as the main base for an adventure across several distinctive regions. Players will explore tropical beaches, enormous vegetable fields, underwater areas, and other environments filled with interactive elements, hidden routes, and dungeons.
Time will also move between day and night as players travel. Some monsters may behave differently or only appear during certain periods, encouraging monster wranglers to revisit areas and pay attention to how each environment changes.
More than 500 monsters can be recruited and synthesized
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World includes more than 500 recruitable creatures, combining familiar monsters from across the Dragon Quest series with completely new additions such as Platypup. Monsters can be scouted during battle, while some may voluntarily ask to join the party.
Each monster can level up, learn spells and abilities, and develop different talents. Two monsters can also be combined through synthesis to create a stronger creature, allowing players to shape a party around favorite designs or a specific battle strategy. Four optional downloadable content packs will also be available alongside the main game.
Daisuki's Tip
You do not need to worry too much about choosing between Bianca and Nera at the beginning. The game allows players to switch between them during the adventure, so both protagonists can remain part of the experience.
Players who enjoy building carefully planned teams should watch for more information about monster traits, talents, and synthesis combinations. With more than 500 creatures available, experimenting with different party compositions will be an important part of the game.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World launches on December 3 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Check the official site before purchasing to compare editions, downloadable content, and platform-specific availability.
